Silverado Academy’s therapists are doctoral and master’s level clinicians. They have extensive experience working with adolescents in a variety of settings, and are committed to providing high quality services to students and their families. Silverado is a unique owner-operated facility in which therapists have a vested interest in the program and the students.

Clinically, the Academy offers a relationship based, experiential program model in a therapeutic natural setting. Therapy is not reserved for the office; it occurs in all aspects of the program and is an ongoing process. Silverado Academy is an environment that can interrupt negative behavior patterns, remove unnecessary distractions, and allow healing to occur.

We believe students respond best to therapy when they are actively and physically engaged. As they begin to internalize and achieve balance with the core principles of work, love, and play, they begin to grow emotionally, socially, and spiritually. Every day begins with a team cabin meeting, daily chores, and academics. Individual therapy and family phone therapy is offered once a week, and speciality groups are offered weekly. Fridays are reserved for experiential outings and recreational therapy. All activities are designed to help students overcome personal challenges, enhance problem-solving, improve communication skills, and increase self-esteem.

Academy staff members are trained in the core principles and are taught to role model healthy living and appropriate communication. The core of our program is the process of building and maintaining genuine relationships; relationships that connect the student with staff, with peers, with family, and with himself or herself. Every day at the ranch allows a student the opportunity to develop new skill sets, new attitudes, and new insights and to break the cycle of self-destructive thoughts, feelings and behaviors.

Each student, based on their respective cabin, will be assigned a coach. The cabin coaches will become very familiar to the student during the student’s time at the ranch. The coaches will be actively involved in guiding the student through the daily structure and schedule of the program. Their role is to support the student in their treatment goals and to challenge the student to learn and grow as much as possible during their time at the ranch. The cabin coaches are responsible for a vast range of functions from participating in issues and therapy groups to supervising chores and projects. One of the significant goals of the program is to teach each student the importance of learning necessary daily living skills. These skills will increase self-esteem and personal competency.

Mark T

"Silverado has exceeded all of our expectations. We have seen significant improvements in our son’s attitude toward school, friends, family, and life. The balanced combination of academics, therapy, and outdoor activities form a solid platform to transform troubled teenage boys into healthy young men."

Jeff W.

"Silverado is a place where our son could learn about himself and explore his challenges with the support of an entire community, including his counselors, teachers, supervisors, and peers. The staff members show genuine concern for the well-being of every boy and make sincere, constructive efforts to build a family environment. Silverado’s philosophy of work, love, and play as well as its emphasis on connecting students with nature within very special settings were all factors of our placement decision for our son."

Natalie S.

"The natural beauty and outdoor activities coupled with the fine academics and warm and caring staff made Silverado a natural and healthy choice for our son and for us."

Randy S.

"We did know where to turn for help… Silverado saved his life and gave us back our “real” son."

Trish

"The tremendous passion, commitment, and love the SBR staff demonstrate to our boys is evidenced daily through their core principles of work, love, and play. I now see they are setting the stage for our son to become a man, and are helping us become the parents we need to be for our son."

Lee D.

"The balance of academics and therapy in a family atmosphere has had a great impact on our son and our family"

Sally & Dave W

"We sent our son of to wilderness an angry young boy, and he returned from Silverado a calm young man. What a difference the right environment makes. Thanks Silverado!"

Fay & Howard

" We can sleep at night knowing that at every level of care--from the therapists and teachers to the administration and support staff--Silverado provides a safe, nurturing haven for our son. In a short amount of time, our son's performance and attitude toward school, his relationships, and everyday functioning have greatly improved. The standards are high here, and the T.R.U.S.T. level system works!"
