Academics

SA Classroom
Our students come to us with a wide range of academic skills and abilities. Many students have experienced difficulty in traditional learning environments and subsequently have negative attitudes toward school. However, the majority of these teens are unaware of their true potential. They often possess hidden skills, talents, and abilities which can be uncovered in a setting such as Silverado Academy.

At Silverado, we have chosen to begin our school day in the morning, and hold school from 8:00 AM- 3:30 PM. The length of each class is 55 minutes. Our mornings begin with daily chores, team meetings, and academics. Classes are held Monday-Thursday with Friday set aside for  experiential therapy outings, work projects, and community service projects. This schedule allows our students to receive 6.5 hours of classroom instruction and a study hall period. There is additional time in the evening for homework, tutoring, and study time. School for our studnts is year-round and allows us to offer an extra semester per year. SA students are able to earn one and 1/2 years worth of credit in 12 months.

A Silverado student's continued academic improvement is important to us. Students will experience a supportive educational environment and will develop effective learning strategies. They will engage in rigorous curriculum in a highly-structured learning environment, receiving multiple opportunities for academic success.

All classes are gender specific and students attend school in two seperate buildings.

We set the bar high and expect our teens to show up prepared and ready to be challenged, both intellectually and emotionally. One of our core principles is work, and we believe attending school and receiving an education is an adolescent's primary “job”.
