Dr. Kreg Gillman with Student

Silverado Boys Ranch has been a dream of Dr. Kreg Gillman, founder of the program, for many years. Growing up on a farm and having daily chores and responsibilities laid the foundation for Kreg's strong work ethic. As a young man Kreg learned the value of completing chores and projects and the positive effect on a person's self-esteem. He learned that working hard and playing hard resulted in feelings of pride, accomplishment, and self-worth. He was living in an environment that balanced work, love, and play, the primary concepts of his treatment model.

Kreg’s vision for a program further evolved during the past fifteen years as he worked with adolescents and their families in a variety of treatment settings. His forte has always been residential and wilderness treatment programs, and he has served in multiple roles including Primary Therapist, Admissions Director, Clinical Director, Executive Director, and Chief Executive Officer. Kreg also has a record of “turning around” programs that were struggling, some financially and some clinically. His extensive experience has helped him understand what it is that constitutes an effective and therapeutic program. Kreg's leadership style allows for, and encourages, empowerment, inspiration, and positive role modeling for students, families, and staff.

Group Therapy

Kreg’s dream of starting a program required the right location and the right people. He needed a location that would support his model and the values of hard work and “hard” play. This was much more than finding a building. The hunt began to find the ideal location, a property with ample space for boys and in close proximity to natural parks and other recreational opportunities.

The dream also required an exhaustive search for a management team consisting of individuals who recognize that the greatest therapeutic moments may not occur in the clinician’s office. Kreg has assembled a team which fully endorses “active” treatment, including intervention “on the trail, in the classroom, and on the ball field”.

Dr. Gillman remains excited about this opportunity to implement his vision and work with young men in a unique ranch style setting with a seasoned management team.
